Punta Cana

In the beginning of December I spent a relaxing week in Punta Cana. Punta Cana is exactly as advertised, gorgeous beaches and stunning oceans.

My group stayed at Iberostar Grand Bavaro. It was my first time staying at an Iberostar all-inclusive. The resort did not disappoint. The food and cocktails were delicious. The beach was full of palapas and the pool always had open seating. The property has five restaurant options for dinner, two buffets, a snack bar by the pool and a swim-up pool bar. The lobby bar has a curated cocktail list.

We did two excursions while there. We booked through Amstar, who provided our airport transportation. First, we went on a shopping excursion to a small village specifically designed for tourists. It had shops with coffee, cocoa, rum and cigars. It was an excellent way to get a taste of what the Dominican Republic is known for.

Our second excursion we went on a snorkel tour. We took a glass bottom boat to the marine park. We snorkeled with sharks and stingrays. It was a bit disappointing as it was difficult to view the sharks and stingrays. After the marine park we cruised to a shallow area of the ocean where we were provided cocktails and got to relax in the water.

Punta Cana was delightful. I would definitely recommend giving the DR a shot on your next tropical vacation.
